lessons from guest post rejectionRecently, I had my first blatant guest post rejection. Basically, I submitted a post to a blog but it was rejected on the basis that my writing style was not similar to theirs.

Whether that was true or a nice way to tell me “Get Out Son”, my post was rejected.

It was a bad and good but mostly good because I learnt a few things from the experience.

Not long ago, I published 9 things bloggers should not be afraid to do and talked about being bold, facing rejection etc.

It happens and may happen again and this is how I am handling this one.

Lessons From My First Guest Post Rejection

1. Get Used To It, You Will Be Rejected

Not everyone, blogger or person will like your writing style, the content or your post. So get used to it, you will be rejected and ignored.

Guest post rejection could be because of other things, even things caused by us. If that is the case, then we need to improve ourselves and make our post good enough to be published.

But don’t be discouraged keep connecting with people and pushing for that guest post. The more rejection you get the more guest post you will get.

2. Research A Blog

I did not look at the content or the writing style of the blog before sending my guest post. I just submitted the blog post because they requested for it. If I had done a research, I would have known what the expected or liked and would have sent same.

So before sending a guest post, research the blog.

Conclusion

Blog guest posting is very important for the growth of a blog. I will not be deterred by a single rejection. You will also be rejected and suggest that you stay undeterred too.

I look forward to more guest posts and more rejections.

Now Let’s talk.

  1. Have your ever had your guest post rejected?
  2. What can one do to reduce the occurrence of blog post rejections?

Thanks for your comments.

    Great picture ;)

I had it happen once. Not a flat out rejection but the blogger preferred that I post on another topic. They were diplomatic about it.

Here’s the way to look at rejection: suggestion. The person rejecting you is merely stating their opinion, or their suggestion concerning the matter whether it be a guest post or any other matter. For each blogger who turns you down there are 100 that want you to share your wisdom with their audience.

Thanks for sharing your story :)

I have had my share of rejection. Actually, I don’t make a great deal out of it. People are different and some may not agree with our style. The important thing thought is not to give up and learn along the way. :-)

      Hey Walter,
Long time ..i think we all need to fail somehow or some where before we finally succeed.getting rejected is one way of doing so.

Content publishers must be tacky when guest posting. There are sites that have clear guidelines on how they accept guest posting and what topics they require. I only have a few guest posts on my blog probably because of my niche however I have never rejected a guest post provided that before an article is submitted, I make sure that the guest blogger knows his topic because I personally suggest and provide feedback.

Webmasters who are so full of themselves are not worth the effort. There are countless blogs out there waiting for your ideas that offers more exposure as long as you do your research, know how many links they can accept, and develop a relationship with them not just simply planting your links into their sites because they would figure it out on your motives.

I personally guest posted once since I started blogging for more than a year. Since then, me and the blog owner became good friends up until now.

  4. In my experience, sometimes you’ll not be told outrightly that your guest post sucks. The beating about the bush by the blog owner is enough to send the message home after a while.

Some guest writers think that guest writing is easy as “just submit and it’ll be published” and they’re wrong.

It’s a bonus if the webmaster tells you why your guest post had been rejected but if not, we have to find a way to improve.

The best thing to do is keep writing and writing because it’s a crucial method to improve!
