This is quite a long post. If you can’t finish it, here is the summary.
Add your personalities that people love about you to your blog and kick out those ones people will hate from your blog.
I read an interesting post on remarkablogger.com the other day that talked about how to blog about the same topics with other bloggers and still stand out . One of the main points he mentioned that could help you stand out was adding personality to your blog or blog post.
Now, the questions that naturally came to mind were “how can one add personality to a blog or blog post” and “does all kinds of personalities work for blogging?”
Let me jump in straight to it.
How can one add personality to a blog or blogpost?
Adding personality to your blog or blog post simply means adding you to your blog post. Know this, you blog or blog post is an extension of you.
Your blog represents you. If someone reads your blog for a long time he or she could indentify you with it (just be listening to what you say and how you talk) when he or she meets you in real life. Something like that.
So what makes up you?
What are you? Who are you? What do you think? How do you talk? How do you say it? What do you say? How do you dress? How do you move? What are your idiosyncrasies? What do you believe in? What are you known for? What do you love? What is your tone?
Many, many crazy questions.
The answers to these questions will help map out what and who you truly are.
The answers to the questions could be.
(The questions above are answered consecutively below)
I am a doctor? I am a lively man or woman? I think about love. I talk with confidence. I say arrogantly. I talk about small businesses. I dress casually? I move with a funny gait. I gesticulate a lot when I talk. I believe in hard work. I am known for motivating people. I love having fun. A friendly one.
These are just answers that reveal who you truly are at the core.
It is usually advised that your blog post should sound like a normal conversation. Write like you talk.
The best way to achieve this is to talk and type or read out your post to your hearing after typing to make sure it sounds like a normal conversation.
It while you are doing this that you add these tiny personalities to your blog post.
Tips about Adding Personality to a blog or Blog Post.
(Using the answers written above)
The Simple answer and very dumb move would be, take all that makes you (all your personality) and dump them in your blog and blog post.
For example, if you a doctor, talk like a doc. If you are lively, use lively words in your blog post. If you think about love, show it in your post. Talk confidently on your blog. Say everything arrogantly. Show energy in your post (gesticulation), motivate others and have fun in your writing.
So you see, dead easy.
Not exactly, there are some personalities that don’t work.
There are some things people don’t like about us. We all have it. Adding those things to your blog is like dropping your blog from the last floor of a 100 storey building.
The best move is to add the likeable personalities and kick out the ones that don’t work .
From the example above “saying everything arrogantly because it is your blog and your personality will only kill your blog”.
Personalities You Can Add To Your Blog
Only add personality’s people love and will endear you to others. We all have at least some personalities people love. They usually say “it is what they like about us or it is our strong point”.
If you have never been told so, just look around you. What makes you influence people? What makes you likeable? What do people always ask that you change in your life?
All these questions will give you an idea of some personality that will and will not work on your blog.
A little exercise:
Looking back at your school or college days and you may have some ideas about personalities that rocked and sucked. Think of people that were loved and hated. People that you liked and disliked. What made them who they were?
Personalities People Generally Love Offline and Online.
1. Funny
Being humourous and funny is great a personality you can add to your blog or blog post. It also stands you out.
2. Helpful
Being a helpful person is also a loveable personality. Adding this to your blog will simply rock your blog.
3. Bold
Bold people are loved. People who are fearless. People who start something new or do something different.
4. Confident
When you talk confidently, you show authority and have an air of knowledge around you.
5. Sympathetic
We love people who feel our pain. People who understand what we are passing through.
6. Encouraging
People love when people you encourage others to achieve their goals.
Personalities People Generally Hate Offline And Online
(And You Should Not Add To Your Blog)
1. Arrogance
If you talk arrogantly on your blog, people will get pissed off.
2. Pessimistic
Who loves a pessimist? Another pessimist I guess.
3. Insulting
If you insult you readers because it is your crazy personality, you blog will suck.
4. All knowing-guruship
No one knows everything. If you always give your readers this personality, many might just start dumping your blog.
Even when I was in school we never liked people like that. In my country they were called ITK (I-too-know) a derogatory phrase that stood for students who always wanted to answer every question in class. Or people who claimed they knew everything.
5. Am Above Mistakes
Just like the last point, if you claim or sound like you are above making mistakes. Full of yourself and cannot apologize to others, then your blog will have a problem if you bring this personality in.
This post is getting too long. I am stopping here.
Bottom line is.
Add your personalities that people love and kick out those ones people will hate.
Are there other personalities you know should be added or removed from a blog post or blog? Please share in the comment box.

You make a really good point. We are the personality behind out blogs, so if we are not being ourselves we are doing our blogs and it’s readers and injustice!

Everyone must remember that loyal readers come to read YOUR blog posts, they want to hear it in YOUR voice; that’s what made them fall in love with it.
When you write with a specific community or person in mind, you’ll be able to convey your message as if it were a normal conversation; you’ll be able to let go, be funny and give insights you’d skip over when being to informal.
