Adding Wp-Spam free to the mix reduced the amount of spam comments I had to wade through @ my blog. Maybe you should give it a try

I noticed the same thing over the course of the last three weeks, my spam comments have gone through the roof meanwhile my accepted comments have dropped. I also notice that when I comment on the blogs that my comments use to go right through on, now they go right to spam. In many cases never to be seen. I will continue to comment here because I know you check your spam folder and as someone with very limited time, I want the comments I write to be seen on the blogs I take time to write them on.
