I don’t know about you but recently I noticed that my Akismet plug-in (a popular WordPress plug-in that catches spam comments) have been working extremely hard catching spam comments and also bullying my real comments in the process.
I don’t know but I think it is because it is not seeing enough spam comments to catch so it is now venting that anger on real comments.
Aside- if Akismet was human, he probably would be one mean arse, bouncer kind of guy with muscles like Arnold swazeneger.
Anywhere, is yours doing the same? Well, if all you do is hit delete spam, you will never know. You may be even deleting real comments along with the spam.
Well, this is what I do and how I discovered this problem.
I always check my spam comments for real comments just in case my Akismet has gone bananas again. Simple.
I suggest you do the same.
Akismet maybe a great plug-in but it works too hard sometimes bullying real comments.
So bottom line is, don’t always hit delete spam, check your spam filter, your hard earned comments might be caught in there too.

I have been seeing the same on my blog. That is why I always check my askimet comments before I delete them (not that it is ever more than 2 at a time)!

where have you been….? checking your spam is golden
I noticed the same thing over the course of the last three weeks, my spam comments have gone through the roof meanwhile my accepted comments have dropped. I also notice that when I comment on the blogs that my comments use to go right through on, now they go right to spam. In many cases never to be seen.
I will continue to comment here because I know you check your spam folder and as someone with very limited time, I want the comments I write to be seen on the blogs I take time to write them on. Great informer post.

your observation is right..i just pulled out your 2 comments from my spam filter…wonder why it is catching all your comments…
Adding Wp-Spam free to the mix reduced the amount of spam comments I had to wade through @ my blog. Maybe you should give it a try

The same thing is happening with my Akismet too. I thought I was was the only person. Even though I regularly check my spam comment queue
