An interview is an interesting type of content that any blogger can publish on a blog.
It can come in many formats: Text, video or audio.
There are many benefits of conducting an interview (especially if you are interviewing someone who is an authority or popular in your niche).
These benefits include:
- Building authority
- Building credibility
- Building relationships with the interviewee
- Gaining knowledge
- Product creation
But I won’t be discussing any of them. I will be talking about the different methods and
Tools You Can Use In Conducting An Interview Online And Offline
There are 3 broad types of tools you can use for creating interview resources. There are:
Text based interviews
Like the name suggests, this type of interview is text based.
1. E-Mail
This is a simple and great tool for interviewing anyone on the internet.
All you do here is send the interviewee the questions that you would ask in a normal live interview and the interviewee will supply answers via email or other means.
The interview can be converted to audio or packaged as a product.
2. Chat Services
Like the simple e-mail, you can conduct a simple or complex interview by chatting with the interviewee online.
It simply requires asking the interviewee questions and the getting answers in real time directly from him or her as you both chat.
You can save the interview after the chat and can edit it before publishing it or packaging it into a product.
There are many chat services online that you can use:
- Yahoo messenger
- Google chat
- Facebook chat
- Skype
And other chat services found online.
Audio Based Interviews via Free Services Online
For this kind of interview you will need a microphone, earphones and some third part recording application.
A popular third party recording program is audacity and camstudio.
3. Yahoo Audio Chat (VOIP)
The free call service offered by yahoo is a cool tool you can use to conduct audio based interviews.
The only catch is that some of these tools don’t allow direct recording so you may need a third party application to record and save the interview before you can convert it to any format you like.
If you have an account on yahoo you can use this service.
4. Google Talk
Google has a similar service called Google talk. It is not very popular but can also be used to conduct an interview online.
Of course, you need to have a Google account to use this service.
5. Skype
This is a popular internet calls service that allows people to make free internet calls with anyone in the world.
It is a good tool for conducting an interview.
Get an account at www.skype.com . To record your Skype call you need cool a tool called Pamela.
Video Based Interviews
For this kind of interview you need web cams, mics, earphones and audio/video recording software.
This is a new website that was built for the purpose of helping people conduct interviews on the internet.
It is very cool and virtually does all the work of setting up a video interview online.
After the interview you can easily embed it anywhere on the internet (your blog or website) using the embed codes provided by the website.
Simply awesome.
Offline interview
If you are lucky enough to see the interviewee in the flesh you can still conduct a simple interview without stress.
The tools you may need are a simple audio recorder, the video /audio recording feature of a mobile phone or a camcorder.
7. Live Video Recording
A live interview can easily be set up using a camcorder or the video recorder on your mobile phone, IPhone or even a web camera.
You can edit it to what you want before you publish it.there are many video cameras you could use for this like the one seen below.
8. Live audio recording
Just like the live video interview, you can use a pocket audio recorder (or the audio recorder on your mobile phone) to set up an interview.
You can edit the content with other third party programs before using it as podcasts on podcast websites like www.ITunes.com
There maybe other ways, websites, tools, methods and ways to conduct an interview online.
If you know of one, please share in the comments.
Thank you.
